Claims Assistant as entry level job

Claims Assistant is an entry level medical position. Average salary is about $65000 annualy.

Claims Assistant is responsible for providing office and claims support for claims handlers or a unit. This could include basic claims processing functions such as data entry, bill payments, completion and filing of forms and scheduling of appointments. Claims Assistant may also interact with clients, claimants and vendors to gather necessary information and complete file tasks. In addition, Claims Assistant may be responsible for processing of Medical Only claims, including the review and authorizing of payments consistent with client requirements, company "Best Practice" and state regulations

It is best to have 1-3 years of professional experience in the insurance, legal or finance industries. Paralegals, candidates with degrees in Risk Management, Economics, or Mathematics are considered for Claims Assistant job.

Everyday tasks include:

• Supporting claims examiners and managers with the day to day claims handling and operations of Healthcare/Medical Malpractice claims.
• Issuance of claim and expense checks
• Requesting stop payments on checks
• Requesting police reports
• Completion of SIU assignment sheet
• Request policies
• Send copies of file materials and policies to defense or coverage counsel
• Request W-9 forms
• Assist agents with inquiries regarding claim statu
• Completion and mailing of form letters
• ISO indexing
• Faxing materials to adjusters as needed
• Performs data entry functions (claim checks, claim file updates, forms, form letters, electronic interfaces, etc.) as directed by claims adjuster or supervisor.
• Receives and/or returns telephone calls as directed by claims adjuster.
• Performs general maintenance of claims documents in the claim files.
  
  

College degree required. Strong analytical, technical and interpersonal skill sets required. Ability to take direction and make decisions. Ability to learn new procedures quickly and adapt to a changing environment is also required for Claims Assistant entry level medical job.
